Community Events & Volunteer Opportunities

The Willow Park Citizens Network is building a community events and volunteer hub — a place where residents can find local events, sign up to volunteer, and connect with neighbors around shared interests that go beyond city government. This section is in development. If you have an event to promote or a volunteer opportunity to share with the Willow Park community, reach out.

Civic Participation

These are the formal channels — the ways to engage directly with your city government. They're open to every resident and more accessible than most people realize.

🎤
Speak at a Council Meeting
Address your elected officials directly. Five minutes, no experience required. Meets 2nd and 4th Tuesday at 6 PM at City Hall.
📄
Request Public Records
Under the Texas Public Information Act, you can request almost any city document — emails, contracts, financial records, and more.
🗳️
Vote in City Elections
Local elections happen every May. Turnout is very low — which means your vote carries more weight here than in any other election.
📬
Contact Your Council Member
Every council member has a public email address. Reaching out directly is one of the most underused tools in local government.
🏛️
Serve on a Board or Commission
Planning & Zoning, Parks Board, Board of Adjustments. These appointed bodies shape development and policy. Any resident can apply.
📋
Stay Informed on Agendas
Read WPCN preview reports before each meeting. Know what's being decided before it's decided — and show up when it matters.

Boards & Commissions

Willow Park has several appointed advisory bodies that give residents a direct role in shaping city decisions — particularly around development, land use, parks, and zoning. Members are appointed by the City Council and serve staggered terms. There are no professional requirements to serve — just a willingness to attend meetings, read materials, and represent your community's interests.

Planning & Zoning Commission
Reviews zoning changes, subdivision plats, and development applications before they go to the council. Holds public hearings and makes recommendations. Meets monthly, typically the third Tuesday.

Board of Adjustments
A quasi-judicial board that hears requests for variances from zoning requirements and appeals of zoning decisions. Meets as needed when applications are filed.
Apply through the City Secretary · 817-441-7108
Parks Advisory Board
Advises the City Council on parks, trails, open space, and recreational programming. If you care about Willow Park's parks and outdoor spaces, this is a direct line to influence.
Apply through the City Secretary · 817-441-7108
TIRZ Board
Oversees the Tax Increment Reinvestment Zone tied to the Beall-Dean Ranch development corridor. Reviews project plans and makes recommendations on how TIRZ funds are spent.

How to apply for a board or commission

Contact the City Secretary's office at 817-441-7108 or dmcmullen@willowpark.org to ask about current openings and the application process. Vacancies are filled by a council vote. You do not need to wait for a formal vacancy to express interest — the City Secretary can note your interest for consideration when a seat opens.
